• Starting a Club

Thinking of starting a new club? First of all, check out our clubs Directory and see if one exists already. If so get in touch with the contact person or you can get in touch with Anna (the Club Development Officer at MAWSA).

If the club you want doesn’t exist, then make it!! It’s not hard and can be very rewarding!

First thing you need to do is find 9 others who want to join (think facebook, posters in the halls, a loudhailer in Tussock!! or if that fails get in touch with Anna and she’ll help you out.)

Once you’ve rallied a group of keen clubbers, drop into MAWSA and pick up a copy of The Handbook – this is an awesome book with all the information you need about joining a club.

The next step is to elect a committee (President, secretary and treasurer at least)

Lastly, go up and see Anna for the affiliation forms and guidelines (they will be on line once they’re updated and user friendly), fill them in, sign your life away and NOW….

You have access to ALL of this:

    • club grants
    • financial support and advice
    • training workshops (planning and running events, etc)
    • administration advice and assistance
    • use of the Student Association building and student media
    • assistance with recreation centres and other venue booking
    • one-off events & competitions

Don’t forget Anna is there to advise on anything and everything from finding sponsorship to storage space. She is there to help ALL clubs, old and new. Anna can be found up at MAWSA every day from 12 – 4pm.
