mawsa Elections are held each year around August to determine next years Executive team. Below you will find all the information you need for the 2011 elections:
PLEASE NOTE: These positions are offered as part of Universal Student Membership. If the VSM (Voluntary Student Membership) bill passes, we can no longer offer these positions.
Elections Nomination Form
The Nomination Form is very important, you need this to nominate who you think would be good as an Executive, you need to fill this out and get them to fill this out and return to the mawsa office.

This outlines the conduct all campaigning must abide by. Any breaches of the Code of Conduct can result in your disqualification to run for the position.

Also note, the Executive are required to have a minimum of 3 hours per week.
President Job Description (1 Year term, 40 hours per week) $35,000 salary
The role of mawsa President is one of wide scope: the president is in charge of representing mawsa members’ interests both within the University and at a national level and is responsible for the leadership and governance of mawsa. Key responsibilities of the President include: representation of the student voice in a wide range of forums across the University, leadership of the Executive, acting as the media spokesperson, strategy and policy, and oversight of mawsa activities which include but are not limited to operations, staff, finances and compliance with pertinent documents such as the Constitution, Strategic Plan and policy. The mawsa President sits on boards and committees across the University, forums in which student issues, both welfare and education related, can be brought to the attention of the University. The role of mawsa President gives its recipient the opportunity to learn a great amount of valuable skills such as governance and leadership, time management, people and relationship management (students, staff, Executive, University and external personnel), media relations, finance, effective communication and project management.
All Executive members are collectively in charge of the governance of mawsa and expected to attend fortnightly meetings.
Note: This position allows for 1 paper to be taken per semester.
WVP Job Description (10 hours per week) $10,000 pa
This role is a part time position assisting the President with duties and, with the Education Vice-President, supporting and assisting the student Executive in their endeavours but has a primary focus on welfare of Massey students. Key responsibilities of this position include acting as the main administrator for the Executive board, being available to students to discuss welfare related issues and being the main contact and organiser of collective Executive events (i.e. free lunches).
All Executive members are collectively in charge of the governance of mawsa and expected to attend fortnightly meetings.
Note: This position allows for full time study
EVP Job Description (10 hours per week) $10,000 pa
This role is a part time position assisting the President with duties and, with the Welfare Vice-President, supporting and assisting the student Executive in their endeavours but has a primary focus of education in Massey University and the tertiary education sector. Key responsibilities include working with the mawsa Advocate to maintain an effective class representatives system, being available to students to discuss education related issues and ensuring that the student voice is represented in academic forums.
All Executive members are collectively in charge of the governance of mawsa and expected to attend fortnightly meetings.

CoCA Portfolio Outline
The CoCA (College of Creative Arts) Executive is responsible for ensuring students in the College of Creative Arts are well represented and their needs, welfare and education related, are being met. A key responsibility of the CoCA Executive is to attend monthly CoCA board meeting with full speaking and voting rights, giving a great opportunity to make positive changes for CoCA students.

Business Portfolio Outline
The Business Executive is responsible for looking after issues relating to students in the College of Business, both welfare and education related. Included under this portfolio are the budget and direction/strategic plan of mawsa and assessing how mawsa can progress into the future. An interest in finance and strategy is not necessary but would be greatly welcomed.

Maori Portfolio Outline
The Maori Executive looks after any issues pertaining to Maori students at Massey University and supports Maori initiatives. The Maori Executive is the liaison between Maori students and mawsa, and is responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of Maori students in terms of both welfare and education. A key responsibility involved with this role is assisting with key Maori events such as Maori Graduation.

Pasifika Portfolio Outline
The Pacifica Executive looks after any issues pertaining to Pacifica students at Massey University and supports Pacifica initiatives. The Pacifica Executive is the liaison between Pacifica students and mawsa, and is responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of Pacifica students in terms of both welfare and education. A key responsibility involved with this role is assisting with key Pacifica events such as Pacifica Graduation.

Postgraduate & Mature Portfolio Outline
The Post Graduate/Mature Executive is responsible for looking after mature and post-graduate students at Massey University and ensuring their needs, both welfare and education related, are being met. The Post Grad/Mature Executive represents, builds a community, and supports and drives initiatives for mature and post graduate students.

HumSocSci & Nursing Portfolio Outline
The HumSocSci/Nursing Executive has a responsibility to the students within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences with a particular focus on Nursing students. The role of the HumSocSci/Nursing Executive is to ensure that the needs of students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, both welfare and education related, are being met.

Sciences Portfolio Outline
The Sciences Executive is responsible for ensuring students in the College of Sciences are well represented and their needs, welfare and education related, are being met. The aim of this role is to create a community which supports students in the College of Sciences and ensure that these students, a minority group, are well represented.

International Portfolio Outline
The International/Cultural Executive is responsible for ensuring that the needs of international and cultural students, both welfare and education related, are being met. The International/Cultural Executive supports and drives initiatives that enhance the experience of international students for the duration of their study in New Zealand, as well as creating a safe and welcoming community for international students. The International/Cultural Executive is the liaison between international students and mawsa.

Queer Portfolio Outline
This role of the Queer Executive is focused on the wellbeing and needs of the queer community at Massey University Wellington. The queer Executive is responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment for students who identify with a non-conventional sexual nature, as well as acting as a liaison between the queer students and mawsa. The Queer Executive represents queer students at Massey and ensures that their needs are being met.
